Episode 1: Let’s Get Started!
It’s always Day 1 at Amazon, but today we’re going to discuss Episode 1 of our AWS Power Hour: SysOps series. We will start with an intro to the certification challenge, introduce the hosts for the series, and cover the outline. Then we will discuss using the AWS Management Console and AWS CLI to perform operations, review the AWS Well Architected Framework, and how to implement security controls to meet compliance.
Episode 2: Networking, Compute, and Security - Oh my!
In this episode, we’ll walk through building an Amazon VPC with subnets and launch resources using a single Amazon EC2 to host a website. We’ll then discuss securing our VPC and instance by using security groups and Network Access Control Lists (Network ACLs). We’ll wrap the episode up with a discussion about Amazon Route 53.
Episode 3: High Availability and Auto Scaling
In the third episode of our series, we’ll expand our website that is hosted on a single server and bring high availability into the discussion. We’ll talk about reacting to capacity change with Auto Scaling groups and leverage Amazon S3 and Amazon CloudFront to reduce latency to our end users.
Episode 4: Metrics, Events, and Logs
Now that we have added high availability, we will discuss collecting and visualizing application logs and metrics with Amazon CloudWatch, and reacting to those metrics using Amazon EventBridge. We’ll then review network monitoring using VPC Flow Logs, and how to monitor API calls with AWS CloudTrail.
Episode 5: Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
You’ve made it to episode five! Let’s dive deeper into our AWS infrastructure and discuss business continuity and procedures such as recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO). We’ll also learn about implementing backup and restore options and various disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
