Description

Organizations such as hospitals, academic medical centers, and primary physician groups understand that the price of maintaining the status quo is greater than the cost of change. Therefore, they have begun to abandon legacy healthcare IT systems and pursue cloud-based methods for storing, sharing, and analyzing information. This modernization has occurred in tandem with healthcare solutions vendors that have also prioritized cloud-based products, which are cheaper to maintain than on-premise technologies. As they move to the cloud, providers garner the speed and flexibility needed to make health interventions at the population level, the power to utilize and share patient data at will, and the confidence to do all this and more in a secure, accessible environment.

To understand the framework of the provider cloud adoption journey, AWS commissioned Xtelligent Healthcare Media to survey leaders across various healthcare organizations. The survey looked at a broad swath of organization types and sizes and targeted the leaders of those organizations. Results illustrate the current state of cloud-based resources at healthcare provider organizations, the unique benefits of cloud computing, and organizational plans for future cloud adoption.

Key takeaways

  • How the acceleration of cloud-based technology adoption is uniform in some ways, but is optimized differently depending on organizational goals and patient needs

  • Why 100% of health system decision-makers indicated that provider productivity increased post-cloud adoption

  • Why academic medical centers cited information security as the most crucial aspect of cloud-based technology
