Inspiring girls in the UK to consider a career in tech

AWS Get IT is a social initiative designed to encourage more girls to consider a career in technology. The initiative, which will run between the autumn and spring terms this year, was launched in September 2018 in the UK.

AWS Get IT invites Year 8 pupils to participate in an inter-school app-building competition to solve a real issue faced by their school or community, with the winning idea built and maintained by AWS.

While diversity and inclusion are good for any business, AWS’ commitment is based on something more fundamental: it's simply right. We want to ensure we’re encouraging as many people as possible to explore careers in technology.

This year, AWS Get IT is aiming to inspire over 10,000 students. Contact us to learn more about how you, or your organisation, can be part of it.

Become an AWS Get IT Mentor

In 2019, we’re aiming to engage with 100 schools in the UK, and as part of the programme, we're offering students the opportunity to regularly meet great female mentors from the IT industry. As an AWS Get IT mentor, you'll be invited to three afternoon events per year to meet with students, and one networking event to meet other mentors and learn more about the impact of mentoring on young people.

Involve your organisation

The competition the students enter can be split depending on the organisations entering the programme. By inviting more organisations to participate, we can offer more choice to students in terms of what they can build and the categories they can enter. Participating organisations will also be part of the judging panel.
