Pre-requisites to attend

  1. Users need to have an AWS account to complete this workshop. Users need to subscribe and import data from AWS Data Exchange to Amazon Redshift

  2. The workshop is a hands-on lab - access to both an Amazon Redshift environment and Foursquare Studio environment will be provided

  3. Even though SQL and other instructions to access and work with the data will be provided, we recommend that users have at least basic familiarity with SQL

  4. We recommend using one of the modern browsers for the lab  - Chrome, Firefox, Edge.

  5. Foursquare Studio uses client side GPU acceleration for rendering and visualizing the data, we recommend using a machine with at least 8GB RAM and Quad Core.

Agenda

The workshop is a 2-hour event. We expect to cover:

  1. Foursquare overview and capabilities

  2. AWS Data Exchange overview and important concepts

  3. Deep dive into AWS Data Exchange for Amazon Redshift and hands-on lab

    1. Demonstrate the subscription to and importing of data from AWS Data Exchange into Amazon Redshift

    2. Query, filter, and analyze the imported Foursquare data

    3. Transform the data for analytics and validate results

    4. Connect Foursquare Studio to Amazon Redshift using the Amazon Redshift connector

    5. Import data from Amazon Redshift to Foursquare Studio

    6. Create visual layers using imported data, as well as free demographics data available in the Foursquare Data Catalog

    7. Leverage Foursquare's market analysis tool

    8. Demonstrate how to export data from Foursquare Studio
