Emerging interactive applications like game streaming, machine learning inference at the edge, virtual reality, and real-time rendering require latencies as low as single-digit milliseconds for end-users and devices, connected through mobile networks. Even with 5G networks that are up to 20 times faster than 4G, mobile applications still have to cross multiple network hops when connecting to an application server over the Internet - resulting in latencies of more than 100 milliseconds. AWS Wavelength addresses these problems by bringing AWS services to the edge of the 5G network, minimizing the latency to connect to an application from a mobile device. In this tech talk, we discuss the use cases and scenarios where migrating, or deploying, your application to a Wavelength Zone can result in improved user experiences. We also discuss the best practices in application architecture to ensure that the latency-sensitive components of your applications are deployed on Wavelength and can connect seamlessly to other AWS services in AWS Regions.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the basics of setting up AWS Wavelength with existing services like VPC and EC2
  • Learn how to determine if your application or use case can benefit from AWS Wavelength
  • Learn how to architect your applications to deliver ultra-low latency and optimize costs across AWS Wavelength Zones and Regions

Who Should Attend?

Application Developers working on 5G and other mobile applications, Solution Architects and Product Managers at enterprises and startups working on Real-time Gaming, ML Inference at Edge, Video Analytics, Smart City/Smart Factory, Autonomous Driving, and AR/VR applications.

  • Chris Barclay, Principal Product Manager, AWS Wavelength
