Accelerating Time to Research Using CloudBank

AWS Education Research Seminar Series

When:
Friday, October 16, 2020 | 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM ET

Session Abstract:
Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), CloudBank aims to simplify the use of the cloud across computer science research and education. Using CloudBank, researchers can access the latest processing systems, such as CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, and quantum computing. They can also securely share data among researchers and research institutions via data lakes and open data programs. Researchers will be able to use a huge array of managed services and algorithms associated with data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to accelerate time to science.

Join this talk to learn about the services CloudBank provides, how to request cloud resources for eligible NSF solicitations, and details of data management tools associated with full data lifecycle. Hear examples of supplementary documents including how to calculate anticipated annual and total costs for accessing the desired cloud computing resources via a simple monthly calculator. Learn about examples of studies using cloud services in genomics, astronomy, and physics that are causing a paradigm shift in computing.

Speakers:
  • Dr. Deepankar Medhi, National Science Foundation (NSF)
  • Dr. Michael L Norman, San Diego Supercomputer Center and University of California, San Diego
  • Dr. Sanjay Padhi, Amazon Web Services (AWS)
